| This
piece is is titled the "Cycle of Life" and
includes the elements of Earth, Fire, Wind and Water.
It relates to consistent healing, growth and
rejuvenation both physically and spiritually. It has
evolved from a previous painting I completed.
I
spent many years in Summerville in Irondequoit and
could be found in any season on the beach near the
Terraces off Rock Beach Road. I was often the only
person on this quiet and special section of beach
that is unique to Irondequoit.
My husband Ron Wolff and I frequently trek through
Durand Eastman Park with our easels to paint the many
magical vistas available.
Irondequoit has a character all of it's own, from
Lake Ontario to St. Paul Blvd. and surrounding and
including one of the most beautiful parks in the city.
Artist Statement:
My career in glass started in the 1970's as a stained
and etched glass artist. In 1985 I graduated
from R.I.T. with a Bachelor of Fine Arts as a Glass
major. At R.I.T. I developed my skills as a
glass blower and opened my studio, Via Glass Art,
at 1115 East Main Street in 1990.
I have spent 20 years selling blown glass and fused
diachroic glass all over the U.S.. I have shown
at gallerys, wholesale and retail markets and art
fairs. I have many awards and honors to my credit
including twice being invited to create glass for
the White House Christmas Tree which resulted in a
private invitational tour for the artists involved.
I have a Masters of Art Education from R.I.T. as well
and have been enjoying my career as a Full time Art
teacher in the Rochester City School District for
the past three years. I am also a painter and several
years ago began to combine my love for drawing and
painting with my sandblasted glass in 3D, 2D and glass
jewelry pieces. This project is an excellent opportunity
for me to explore my chosen glass media in a full
scale painting. An endeavor such as this brings me
growth and new ideas and is a welcome challenge.
I
am thrilled to have Maguire Properties as my Sponsor.
Via Glass Art (my Studio) is located in their building
on East Main Street. I would like to Thank Tom and
Dennis Maguire for their support and interest in this
project.
Description
of Project Proposal:
This design is to scale for the smaller window frame
of 42.5" wide x 34" high.
This design will be a reverse painting on glass. The
glass will be 1/4" thick and will be painted
on the reverse side.
Reverse
painting is a very detailed oriented process where
in you literally have to think backwards and paint
all foreground detail first. When a painting is finished
you can no longer see the detail from the backside
where it is painted because in each layer that you
paint, you paint over the previous layer. This hides
the detail and therefore creates the mystery. I coat
the backside surface with a solid gloss enamel to
protect the underlying layers of paint. The finished
painting in the frame would be best displayed on a
wall. |
