Studio 34 is located in an historic building at 34
Elton Street, in the heart of the Neighborhood of
the Arts. It is one of Rochester's newest old spaces,
and includes a gallery and working artist studios.
The founding partners share a common vision: that
of bringing new art and artists to the Rochester community.
The vision for this window was to see what four
artist working as one could come up with using each
of there own talents. "An Artist Spin" is
just that! Working together this unique
window came to life. Using her art as a surface designer,
Patricia came up with the design.
Patrica along with artist Beth Hughes worked on the
background. Jewelry designer, Julie Boyan and
glass artist, Marilynne Lipschultz did the colorful
spiders web. A friend, Sami, from Ghost Dog Glass,
made the glass spider to complete this project.
Patrica, who currently is working out of her home
studio, shows her work both at local galleries and
stores. A self taught artist, she uses color
and whimsy in her work. She custom designs many
items to commemorate special events from births
to weddings. Working on community projects is a way
to give back to Rochester some of the support she
has received from the community.
Beth
Hughes is a self-taught artist who was born and raised
in Rochester, New York. She is a telecommunications
consultant by day and artist by night. Her medium
is primarily acrylics on canvas. Beth enjoys
creating different styles, which vary between, impressionism,
abstract and surrealism. Bold, vibrant colors bring
her paintings alive.
Marilynne Lipshutz, homegrown in West Irondequoit,
is a Rochester psychotherapist. After years of admiring
and studying the work of other glass artists,
Marilynne opened her own glass blowing studio at 34
Elton Street, which she shares with artists Beth Hughes
and Julie Boyan. The glass bugs on the spider web,
found on An Artist's Spin window, were made using
a torch in a process called flamework. Marilynne is
a member of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers
and writes a column for a glass magazine published
in Great Britain.
Julie
Boyan is a Jewelry Designer / Metalsmith. Born
in Rochester NY and raised in West Irondequoit.
Julie specializes in hand constructed one of a kind
jewelry made with sterling silver, 14k gold and art
glass beads. Julie's work can be seen at the
Memorial Art Gallery, local stores in Rochester as
well as the Park Ave. Arts Festival and The Clothesline
Arts Festival. " As a graduate of West
Irondequoit High School, I am proud to have had
the opportunity, not only as a sponsor but especially
as an artist, to be a part of Windows on Irondequoit".
