Title: "Pier into Memories"
Artist: Brian Sloane
Window Dimensions: 53" x 50"

I am a 2000 graduate of St. Bonaventure University where I received a BA degree in Visual Arts.  I have been creating sine I was young and went on to high school at the School of the Arts in Rochester and continued at college.  I enjoy the creative side of the art world as well as the gallery work.  At college I had the opportunity to do an internship at the Quick Arts Center and also worked in the theater on set designs.  Since college graduation, I have been working as a substitute teacher, creating art and research job opportunities, as well as grad schools.  I plan to involve myself in more artistic project, continue with art classes and look to new prospects.

My styles in art range from abstraction in sculpture, detail in figure drawing, and striving for completeness in all other types of art.  Sculpture is abstracted by compulsive application of glazes on pottery and innovative manipulation of clay into abstract forms.  My attention to detail in figure drawing can be found in shading, line, texture, and form.  Self-inspiration and the desire to complete to the best of my ability subjects in painting, ceramics, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional designs comprise the other types of art that are of interest to me.

A finished piece of artwork must have the presence of fullness.  Of importance to me in 2-dimensional work is background in a drawing or painting, even if it is just one line.  A variety of colors, primary and secondary as well as personal favorites, are present in my artwork, hopefully so it will look attractive.  The creative process leads me to explore my skills and determination from the beginning of a project to its completion.  Because of this I find it difficult to call a work finished and therefore feel compelled to add to the original creation.

My inspiration to create comes from several activities including playing piano, physical exercise, movies, music, and my friends.
