Title: "Spirits of the Wood"
Artist: Carmen SantaFerrara
Window Dimensions: ~ 34" x 36"

My name is Carmen SantaFerrara.  I am a Rochester based Illustrator and have had my own freelance business for 10 years now.  I have done numerous projects in the area including  Deer on Parade (2002) in Canandaiga in which I designed and crafted three deer,  ESL Animal Scramble (2003) this year in Rochester  I designed and crafted a fish for Palmer Fish Co., I illustrated a children's book entitled How to be a Superhero!  which  will go into publishing at the end of April,  and I am working on illustrating two other books which will be published within the year.  I've also been a company artist for Wegmans Food Markets for 6 years in which I do projects ranging from store signage to sculpture, murals, woodwork, displays, etc.  My inspiration for The Windows Project  was to associate with the earliest settlers of Irondequoit, Native Americans.  My  window consists of a young deer (buck)  jumping out of the woods in which the faces of Native Americans past can be seen in the bark of the trees, symbolizing that their spirits never left the land that had once belonged to them.  It is all cut out of wood, carved, stained, painted and layered to create an illusionary 3-dimensional image, as if you are looking out this window and experiencing this happening yourself.  I just wanted people to remember the first settlers of  Irondequoit ( which was originally named Indian Landing ), the Native Americans.
