An Irondequoit native, Jim Plukas began his career in wood design and fabrication while still a student at Bishop Kearney High School, when he built a 12’6” sailboat. From there, he moved to Massachusetts where he attended Leeds Design Workshop;, a program focused on furniture design and fabrication. Upon completion of the program he began executing designs for corporate clients ranging from Time Warner Communications to Cline Davis Mann Advertising. His craftsmanship has been on exhibit at prestigious galleries including Snyderman Gallery in Philadelphia PA. and Pritam & Eames in Easthampton, NY.
 
In 1993, Jim returned to Rochester to open James M. Plukas Furniture LLC. Located in East Rochester, his custom shop and design facilities are also a showcase for his wood furnishings and cabinetry. He says, “My goal is to provide my residential and corporate clients with the highest quality custom furniture and cabinetry to precisely fit their tastes and specifications.”
 
Jim, his wife, Denise and their three children live in West Irondequoit where he is active in serving his community as President of the Helmer Nature Center Action Committee as well as Head Coach for the Irondequoit Soccer Club.
