An Irondequoit native, Jim Plukas began his career
in wood design and fabrication while still a student
at Bishop Kearney High School, when he built a 12’6”
sailboat. From there, he moved to Massachusetts where
he attended Leeds Design Workshop;, a program focused
on furniture design and fabrication. Upon completion
of the program he began executing designs for corporate
clients ranging from Time Warner Communications to
Cline Davis Mann Advertising. His craftsmanship has
been on exhibit at prestigious galleries including
Snyderman Gallery in Philadelphia PA. and Pritam
& Eames in Easthampton, NY.
In 1993, Jim returned to Rochester to open James M.
Plukas Furniture LLC. Located in East Rochester, his
custom shop and design facilities are also a showcase
for his wood furnishings and cabinetry. He says, “My
goal is to provide my residential and corporate clients
with the highest quality custom furniture and cabinetry
to precisely fit their tastes and specifications.”
Jim, his wife, Denise and their three children live
in West Irondequoit where he is active in serving
