Title: "Reflections 1986-2002"
Artist: Bob Geroux
Window Dimensions: ~ 36" x 50"
bio:
i taught at ihs for 16 years, from 1986-2002....was the k-12 art department supervisor/coordinator for that time as well.....prior to w. irondequoit, i taught in the rochester csd for 14 years, at wilson jhs, school without walls, and charlotte jr-sr hs. while at ihs, i initiated the "arts festival" and student exhibitions at irondequoit mall, pyramid arts center and and local banks/businesses. i retired from public school teaching after 30+ years of service, and am currently teaching art education classes at elmira college. my wife carol, our son bobby, two cats, a dog and a few ducks live just outside of naples, ny.

my window:
the design is a reflection of my experience teaching at ihs.  the large clown face is actually a self-portrait. i am a certified mime clown and would come to school in this persona almost annually around halloween, teach my classes in mime, and in general move about the district spreading smiles and hopefully imagination and creativity.  the large hand cut out is from a 4ft x 8ft. wooden hand (mine) that is covered with the hand prints of all the students who studied beginning drawing and painting with me over my 16 years at ihs!  i would tell them that we were connected in time with these "hand shake designs" and they were my "blossoms", and that when i retired that large hand would be a garden gate on our property here in naples.  the chimes are symbolic of all the various chimes that hung in my artroom
at ihs.....and each time someone used the "h" word (h_te) we would ring the chimes, in order to chase away the negative energy, and keep the art room a sanctuary from all the "hatred" in the world.....students loved this little tradition/ceremony and i regularly enforced that rule, since i feel that there is enough hatred in our world.....and we all should try to contribute more love to it instead...........along the sides of the piece are many names of students and colleagues who were/are very special to me..........the mirrored surfaces are meant to re inforce the theme of "reflections"........and the curved wooden tryptic cut out is from an antique mirror that len crellin, my former colleague gave me to use in still-life set ups in artroom 222...........
