Ellen
began seriously studying calligraphy in 1994, taking
classes at the Rochester Museum and Science Center;
with Gail Vick Barnhardt, and later with Linda McFadden.
She joined the Genesee Valley Calligraphy Guild and
has displayed works in the annual guild show since 1997.
In 2001 she attended the International
Calligraphy Conference near Boston, MA, studying with
international artists Nancy Culmone and Ewan Clayton.
She have taught beginning calligraphy
at the Spencerport Library, Rochester Museum and Science
Center, and through the Irondequoit Parks and Recreation
Department.
Project description:
The six pieces are united in the wish for peace and
unity in Irondequoit and the world. The quotations are
in the public domain. The middle pieces are her own
words describing Irondequoit and the hope for unity.
The background further unites all six pieces with a
view of the world.
