Artist: Stephen Merritt
Known for his massive and graceful, thin-walled porcelain and earthenware vessels, Steve Merritt is one of the most acclaimed ceramic artists in the area. His internationally recognized work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Smithsonian American Art Museum Renwick Gallery, the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo, the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA and the Memorial Art Gallery here in Rochester. The Japanese Embassy in Washington, DC hosted a large one-man show of his work during the summer of 2000.
